Dolce & Gabbana D&G Early-2000s Dress

D&G, launched in 1994, served as Dolce & Gabbana’s youthful diffusion line throughout the 1990s, translating the brand’s signature sensuality into more playful, accessible designs.

Cut to sculpt the body in a close, figure-hugging silhouette, the dress is crafted from gauzy, semi-sheer stretch cotton. Cleverly draped and constructed, the fabric appears to twist around the body, revealing a satin-trimmed row of hook-and-eye fastenings along the left rib - as though caught by a sudden breeze that exposes the wearer’s lingerie. The shoulder straps are formed from thick, utilitarian elastic bands, secured with velcro closures for an industrial feel that plays to the brand's underwear-as-outwear aesthetic. A similar silhouette was seen in D&G's Spring 2000 show and wide elastic banding in Spring 1999 (pictured). The dress is lined with black mesh for modesty and to further shape the body.
