Fendi x Karl Lagerfeld Pre-Fall 2013 Dress

This black leather and suede panel dress from Fendi’s Pre-Fall 2013 collection showcases the house’s extraordinary craftsmanship under co-creative directors Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi. Beautifully patchworked, the dress forms subtle stripes that contour the torso. As Vogue observed of the collection, its “astounding workmanship” was evident and it achieved a balance that was “part techy, part craft.”

Cut to a shift-dress silhouette, the top is sleeveless with a rounded neckline. It is crafted from vertical panels of ponyskin, leather and sheepskin and trimmed with leather at the neckline and armholes. There is a nipped-in waistband. The skirt falls in an A-line shape that hits just above the knee. It too is composed of panels of these decadent fabrics, this time placed horizontally. The reverse of the leather, and inside of the dress, is a vibrant apple green, which can occasionally be glimsed at the seams. The dress fastens at the back with a hidden tonal zip.
