Gucci Spring 1993 Jodhpur Trousers
These Gucci riding trousers were designed as part of the brand’s Spring 1993 collection, where they appeared multiple times in both black and white to ground the more flamboyant details of the show. They also featured in the campaign imagery for the season.
In the early 1990s, Dawn Mello was Gucci’s chief designer. Mello was the genius who hired Tom Ford in 1994, and the woman responsible for reviving the loafer and bringing us the Gucci clogs and bamboo bag. She transformed the horsebit into a sought-after logo by using it as straps on dresses, across cut-outs in catsuits, and to anchor bikinis. Mello paved the way for Gucci's sexiest years under Tom Ford.
These trousers are tailored from thick, cinching stretch cotton. They have a flattering high-waist cut and skinny shape, which means they fit like disco pants. There is a small pocket above the left hip that closes with a "Gucci"-engraved zip-pull. The waist closes with two gold-toned logo-engraved snap closures and a hidden zip. The bottom hems are left raw. They are unlined, except at the waist which is lined with a wide band of black elastic.
