Louis Vuitton by Marc Jacobs Spring 2005 Dress

£1,495.00

This colour-block silk dress from Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2005 collection was designed by Marc Jacobs. The creative director's reign was marked by his ability to weave together disparate references and in this collection he drew on 1940s circus photographs and the vintage street style of model Querelle Jansen. As he said at the time, “It’s just about having fun with clothes.”

Tailored from silk-crepe into a sleek, shift shape that gently skims the body’s curves, the dress features a striking colour contrast: deep pink - almost terracotta - above the bust and off-white below. As ever with Louis Vuitton, it is all in the details, and this dress is beautifully made. The keyhole cut-out adds a flirty feel to the seemingly demure silhouette, and is trimmed with delicate, frayed seams. At the back, the seductive draped skirt shapes the bum and is finished with cascading ruffles of soft, polka-dot crepe. The dress is lined with a tonal off-white silk-satin slip. It fastens at the centre back with a logo-engraved silver metal and pink velvet ribbon zip-pull.
