Roland Mouret Spring 2006 "Galaxy" Dress

£595.00

Roland Mouret’s Galaxy dress is nothing short of iconic - a true It-dress in every sense. First unveiled on the Fall 2005 runway in its original blue and black colourways, the design became an instant sensation, later appearing for Spring 2006 in this coveted, vibrant olive-green version. Its sculpted, body-contouring silhouette with structured cap-sleeves and a pencil-skirted shape celebrated curves in a world just emerging from “heroin-chic”. As Vogue noted, “Dresses were draped so ingeniously, through a system of tucks and small seams, they seemed to be effortlessly anchored to the body.”

The dress features an elaborate panelled construction that belies its apparent simplicity. Its architecture is intentionally revealed: tonal stitching traces the seams, which are left exposed, while layered panels sculpt the contours of the body. Lined in black mesh, the piece subtly cinches the silhouette. It fastens at the back of the neck with a tonal zip. The skirt falls into a slight flicker of a train at the back, where a slit is finished with three tortoiseshell buttons.

The green Galaxy holds particular significance as one of the most recognisable iterations. Rachel Weisz famously wore it to the 2005 premiere of The Constant Gardener, cementing its place in fashion history before it even reached stores. Over the years, the Galaxy has become a red-carpet favourite, worn by Victoria Beckham, Halle Berry, Naomi Watts, Dita Von Teese, and Miranda Kerr, and remains one of the defining garments of the 2000s.
