Christian Dior by Raf Simons Fall 2013 Skirt Suit

This black bouclé wool Bar jacket and skirt suit from Christian Dior’s Fall 2013 collection showcases Raf Simons’s take on the house’s most iconic silhouette. First introduced in 1947 as part of Dior’s revolutionary New Look, the original Bar jacket redefined postwar femininity with its sculpted waist and flared hips. Cut with a low, scoop neckline and double-breasted closure, Simons softens the classic structure without losing its precision. In making this collection Vogue declared that Simons had danced with the devil and won. Of his interpretation of the Bar jacket, Vogue wrote "in one fell swoop an ironclad fashion icon surrendered to the moment."

The jacket is crafted from a highly-textured bouclé woven from a mix of wool, alpaca and angora. It is paired with a high-waisted, softly pleated skater skirt in the same fabric with a fringed hem. The jacket closes with two hidden snap closures and the skirt with a hidden tonal zip and hook-and-eye on the left hip. Both the jacket and skirt are lined in black silk.
