Miu Miu Spring 2013 Coat

£1,095.00

This dark khaki-green silk coat from Miu Miu’s Spring 2013 collection was the final look of the show. Crafted from purposefully crumpled silk with dramatic black tie-dye detailing, the coat merges utility and luxury. Its kimono-like gaping sleeves, gently curved collar, and one-oversize-fits-all silhouette evoke a sense of ease.

On the runway, the coat was styled with latex on supermodel Karen Elson. As Vogue wrote, “This was a workwear femme fatale, with a hands-on dishabille wardrobe... evening coats that were oversize, creased, and crumpled - this time in that characteristic duchesse satin - were given the same tie-dyed treatment, almost appearing like massive stains.” This coat is an example of Miuccia Prada’s genius for finding beauty in contradiction.

Tailored from a thick Italian silk, it has an oversized fit with wide, cropped sleeves. There are two flap pockets - cleverly tie-dyed to blend with the front. Under a shawl collar, the coat is slightly gathered to emphasise the cocooning silhouette. The black tie-dye forms a circle on the front, mirrored by the purposeful creases that radiate from its centre. It fastens with hidden silk-covered snap closures. It will fit a wide range of sizes.
