Yves Saint Laurent Fall 1987 Skirt

This gold moiré mini-skirt is from Fall 1987, arguably Yves Saint Laurent's most glamourous era. Historically reserved for court dress and ceremonial finery, moiré enjoyed a dramatic revival in the mid-1980s. On the runway, the look was styled with one of my personal favourite YSL combinations: a richly embellished, cropped gold jacket and a wrap-around sash belt in baby blue which recalled obi and cummerbund traditions.

Cut to a high-waisted silhouette, the skirt showcases moiré fabric with rippling, light-catching patterns. It is detailed with angular welt pockets to emphasise the curves of the body. The skirt is lined with tonal gold satin. It fastens at the left side of the waist with a hidden zip and hidden hook-and-eye clasp.
