Yves Saint Laurent by Stefano Pilati Fall 2011 Cloak

£925.00

This black crepe full-length cloak from Yves Saint Laurent’s Fall 2011 collection was designed by Stefano Pilati. This design continues a long and storied tradition of capes within the house’s history. First popularised by Yves Saint Laurent himself in the 1960s and 1970s, the cape became a recurring motif - a symbol of drama and elegance. From the opulent evening cloaks of the haute couture years to minimalist reinterpretations in later collections, the silhouette remains a YSL trademark.

Pilati’s 2011 version, cut in fluid black crepe and falling to the ankles, has more than a hint of sexy vampire about it. It is unlined and fastens at the front of the high, collared neckline with silver-toned hook-and-eyes. The shorter version of this cape walked the runway and featured prominently in the Fall 2011 campaign imagery, underscoring its role as a defining part of Pilati’s vision for the house. The Fall 2011 collection received rave reviews, with Vogue noting the cape in particular and writing of the show, "these were rigorously elegant, superchic, and sexy clothes".
