Versace Spring 1992 Leggings
These animal-print leggings from Versace’s Spring 1992 collection represent a key moment in Gianni Versace’s career. Spring 1992 was the season in which he first showed what came to be many of the house’s defining codes. Versace filtered 18th-century romanticism through a baroque lens, taking inspiration from Jean-Honoré Fragonard’s The Swing (famously echoed by Milla Jovovich on a flower-covered swing at the show's opening). The boldly printed leggings are tailored to a flattering, extreme high-waist fit and have a smooth, slippery handle - a perfect imitation of the reptile itself.
Gianni Versace told Vogue at the time, “Fashion is no longer about night and day. It’s about how you feel, what you are, and how you express yourself. Today women have the confidence to mix extreme opposites.”
