Versace 2000s Top
Introduced in the late 1980s following the launch of Versus, Versace Jeans Couture was one of several diffusion lines operated by Versace until 2018, when the brand was acquired by the Michael Kors group. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, the line offered a more accessible interpretation of Versace’s iconography, often launching more commercial versions of runway looks. The Versace Jeans Couture Fall 1999 campaign, shot by Steven Meisel, exemplifies the brand's shift to a bolder, Y2K aesthetic (see picture).
This top dates to the 2000s when the label changed to pale grey and bore a Medusa. It is a lightweight knit with a thinner, sheerer knit at the rear. It is embroidered with the Medusa symbol at the back of the neck. The neck is high and buttons at the side of the neck with tonal buttons engraved with the brand name. It has a thick stretch-knit waistband. The top is unlined.
