Christian Lacroix 2000s Jacket with Faux-Top
Christian Lacroix designed this corset in the early 2000s, just a few years before the house’s collapse during the global financial crisis of 2009. The New York Times wrote that “the loss of Christian Lacroix to Paris haute couture is immeasurable.” The intricate detailing of this ready-to-wear piece reflects his technical brilliance. There has never been anyone quite like him.
Crafted from a fluid black crepe, this jacket is tailored to a suit jacket style with a chest welt pocket and two flap pockets. This is no ordinary suit jacket, it's done the Lacroix way. The front fastens with two buttons attached with a small chain - each is crafted from silver-toned ridged metal and black enamel with a beautiful, abstract red pattern. The jacket is adorned with three appliqué leaves and stalks - gathered as though a bouquet - which fall upside-down from the shoulder. The jacket is lined with a faux-top that we see at the front. It has multiple hook-and-eyes which close the front, and a drawstring neckline. The jacket is lined in black and white satin, printed with the house’s signature painterly motif from the period.
