Christian Lacroix Fall 1993 Dress

This Christian Lacroix dress dates to Fall 1993, when models walked the runway in black silhouettes punctuated by peekaboo ribbonwork cut-outs and elaborately constructed sleeves. Crafted from a weighty ribbed knit, the dress hangs with a fluid, body-skimming drape, the stretchy fabric allowing for a flexible fit. Sheer tulle sleeves contrast the dense knitted body. The exaggerated cuffs reference Lacroix’s theatricality, composed of intricate ribbonwork that climbs to the elbow and falls sensually over the hand. Ribbonwork embellishment would come to be a signature of the fashion house. The dress is unlined. It has no fastenings and slips on over the head.
